What luxury fashion consumers want from augmented reality // Vogue Business
A new whitepaper from Vogue Business and Snap explores the potential of AR tools for fashion and luxury brands. This is a good litmus for what wishlist items the public would like to see in AR from retailers, with virtual try-on still being at the top but isn't the only thing people want to see.

The Foundation of Brain Health // NextSense
We first heard about Nextsense in a Wired story in 2022 and are hopeful that HMU manufacturers and researchers are also keeping an eye on this potential peripheral device. The Nexesense eFit Scanner earbuds measures brain waves similarly to an EEG but without the need for attaching electrodes to your head. Already capable of detecting early seizure signs these could be integral in helping better understand and effect mental health issues we don't have enough data to fully understand.

Stardust SDK // Neogoma
Niantic is not the only company working on AR at the world scale, and the Stardust Unity SDK is something you should consider if you're looking to extend your Unity project into AR. We're hoping to be able to play a bit more with this beyond just running the very thorough open source project demo, but from what we've seen so far it's fairly stable and accurate with creating persistent AR experiences.

Omniverse Platform for creating and operating metaverse applications // NVIDIA
Omniverse has been on our radar for years but hasn't been mentioned much since the uses have been limited. However looking at what you can do with it in 2023 we're blown away at how much it's grown. If you have never given it a try, or haven't looked at it in a while, it is definitely worth another look as we feel it's going to play a large role in the future of the Metaverse.
Commentary
The utility and versatility of Augmented Reality lends itself well to our modern world of smart phones with processors faster and more powerful than the gaming consoles of the early 2000's. It's why Apple Vision Pro focuses on AR/spatial computing instead of VR, and the options for AR headsets has increased quite a bit in the last two years.
Though this issue we share a lot of fashion focused links it doesn't mean that AR is just limited to clothing. For more examples of other places AR is being used see any previous issue of the newsletter. As we navigate through these pages consider that AR has transitioned from novelty to almost a necessity, revolutionizing industries and reshaping the boundaries of what's possible.
