New material avoids AR/VR glasses “bug eyes”
Any technology's adoption can be hindered by how it draws attention to itself, with current generation's AR glasses suffering from problem of not looking like typical glasses or sunglasses. This article discusses a paper detailing a new process that simulates the "curve" at a nano scale, removing the need to add it into the final lens of the AR headset. Advances like this bring us closer to removing hurdles to integrating new technology into our lives, lessening the fears and concerns of looking weird.

Everyday Experiments

One More Thing
ZERO10
Real time virtual dressing rooms and try on tech has been something brands hare been interested in for over a decade, and there have been a few few pretty good examples of brands doing it right Advances in AR platforms make even the experiences of last year seem dated, and this issue's "One More Thing" is a truly impressive demonstration of where things are headed for making the world open to layering meaningful experiences into our daily lives.
Commentary
There were a lot of take-aways from recent virtual conferences regarding the future of technology, and most of them centered on AR being the new frontier most companies will stake their claim. With VR already a very crowded space, with established companies spending billions of dollars to establish dominance, there is still quite a lot of room in consumer AR. Apple and Google are likely to become the dominant forces for a while, but as innovations come over time we may still see room for smaller, independent companies to have a large influence.
The links from this week definitely show that there is still a lot of room in all areas of VR and AR, but probably not in the same areas the fortune 500 companies are looking to establish. Delivering experiences that remove the barrier between the virtual and physical is certainly not new, but the options we now have make it feel new and exciting again.
Thank you for reading and subscribing, and we'll see you next week!
